INSTRUCTIONS

Boil the grains and hops in coarse straining bags in a separate container to the gooey extract. This makes for an easy and efficient wash-through with water taken from the original quantity that's been allowed to cool during the boil. The OG comes in at 1.048 so the eficiency was 86%. The malt extract can be mixed with a smaller portion of the water and brought past the hot break stage and allowed to cool. Mix it in at the end before adding the yeast. If you boil the extract with the grains you lose a lot in the spent grains - it's too sticky to wash off the side of the can let alone wash out of a mass of grain.
